Monkey puzzles are tall, ornamental, evergreen nut trees native to Chile and Argentina. They have sharp leaves that evolved over 100 million years ago to deter dinosaurs from browsing.
They produce large cones with 250 nuts per cone. The nuts have thin, easily to peel shells. 2" long nuts taste good after roasting, resembling corn or chestnuts.
Hardy to -10° F. Zone 6-9. To produce nuts plant 2 or more. Cross pollination is necessary for nut set. These are unsexed seedlings. |
