Bamboo Trees
Bamboo are among the most useful plants on Earth. They are beautiful to look at and make effective visual screens, as all are evergreen. They also make delicious edible shoots in the summer which can be cooked and eaten. Harvesting new shoots can be a means of controlling its spread. Bamboo is shade tolerant, but doesn't tend to spread under shady conditions, so planting in a shady location can also be a means of controlling its spread. Making a shallow trench 8-10 inches deep around a clump can also help to contain it. Left unchecked, in a well watered sunny location spreading bamboos will become an ever increasing grove. Clumping bamboo will not spread. The Spreading bamboo will to varying degrees and speed. Each variety is listed as a clumper or spreader. Bamboo can not be shipped to Hawaii.

ALPHONSE KARR BAMBOO (Bambusa multiplex)
Medium sized clumping bamboo. Colorful canes emerge bright yellow with green pin-striping. In the sun, canes turn from pale pink to burgundy red. Upright form and interesting foliage make it ideally suited as a container plant - indoors or on a deck - in mild winter regions. In the Southern states it can be used outdoors as a specimen plant, and is commonly used in hedgerows where it can grow to 20 ft. tall. As this is a subtropical species, it needs protection in cold winter areas as it is only hardy to the warmer regions of zone 8, showing damage below 15F. Good edible shoots. Sun or shade. **CLUMPING**
