A hardy Russian dwarfing apple rootstock. BUD 9 is similar to M9 but more winter hardy, to Zone 3. Induces very early fruiting and larger fruit so it usually requires support. The tree is slightly smaller than M26. Leaves and wood are reddish which helps distinguish rootstock from grafted portion.
