Ace - This new variety is a cross between American, Chinese, and European chestnut.
Belle Epine - Very high quality, reddish brown nuts are late ripening, yet do ripen sufficiently here in the Northern edge of chestnut culture. These trees have good disease resistance and make an excellent pollinator. In the North, nuts come down still in the husk, protecting their seeds from jays and squirrels.
Bergantz - Selected as a seedling of Colossal. This variety has very good flavor, large nuts and is easy to peel. Zone 4-8.
Bisalta No.2 - Italian selection of European chestnut crossed with Japanese chestnut, yielding large nuts. Zone 4-9.
Bisalta No.3 - This is a vigorous, productive tree with good flavored nuts. Can have very large nuts, but overbearing can result in as many as 6 nuts per bur - resulting in mid sized nuts. Pollen sterile. Blight resistant European x Japanese cultivar.
Bouche de Betizac - A vigorous, upright tree that produces large crops of big nuts. They taste great and peel well. It is a widely adapted tree, resistant to blight and phytopthora root rot and gall wasp. A European X Japanese selection from France. Pollen sterile. Ripens late, yet able to ripen in cooler climates.
Bracalla - Italian variety. These have very large nuts. Late ripening, yet fills well in our cool climate. Zone 5-8.
Colossal - Parent tree produces exceptionally big nuts of good quality. These are very productive. Early ripening, easy peeling, popular orchard variety. Has survived -28°F. Pollen sterile. Does best in warm summer climate regions. Zone 4-8.
Connecticut Early - A probable cross of Allegheny Chinkapin with Chinese Chestnut. The result has produced a tree with the earliest ripening of any chestnut we've seen. Pollen producer.
Gillet - Very large Marron type nuts that are good flavored, keep well and ripen midseason. It is compact and hardy to at least -20 degrees. Good pollinator. Originally a seedling planted by Bob Bergant. Discovered and named by Michael Nave after Felix Gillet, pioneer nut tree nurseryman.
Layeroka - An early ripening variety. Heavy yield of medium to large, sweet nuts. Precocious, vigorous tree, erect timber form. It is a very winter hardy, blight resistant tree. Pollen sterile. Zone 4-8.
Maraval - Very large nuts, late ripening. These trees are resistant to blight and phytopthora root rot. A good pollinator for other chestnut varieties. Zone 5-8.
Marron du Var - An easy peeling, very sweet, French variety. It is late ripening and pollen sterile.
Marigoule - Vigorous, dual purpose tree. Large sweet nuts, and good timber form. Blight and root rot resistant. Good pollen producer. It is a Japanese x European hybrid. Zone 5-8.
Marrisard - Very large nuts, good flavor and peeling quality. These are especially good in hot climates, where they produce nuts larger than Colossal. Pollen sterile, late ripening. Very disease resistant to blight and phytopthora.
Marron Comballe - French variety with medium to large, easy peeling nuts with a single kernel within a shell. It is a mid to late season ripening chestnut. Good pollen producer.
Marron Di Chuisa Pesio - Northern Italian variety. On good sites it produces a very large, easy peeling nut of exceptional flavor. Pollen sterile. Not resistant to chestnut blight.
Marron di Val di Susa - Large, sweet, easy peeling variety from Northern Italy. Plump, rounded nuts in well filled burrs. It ripens well in cool Northern regions despite it being a late ripener. Burrs often drop before opening, protecting nuts from predation by wildlife. Good pollinator.
Marsol - Fairly early ripening of very large, shiny reddish brown nuts of good quality. Vigorous when young, would make a good timber tree. Resistance to blight, anthracnose, and phytopthera. It is a pollinator variety originally selected in France.
Nevada - A pollinator for Colossal. These produce a medium sized nut that ripens several weeks after Colossal. Zone 4-8.
Nice Crop La Pointe American - This has an abundant crop of very sweet, easy peeling, small nuts. Not blight resistant, plant only outside the native range of American chestnut.
Okei - Very large, round orange-brown nuts are larger than Colossal and ripen 2 weeks later. A good pollinizer for Colossal and others and a good choice if blight is likely to be a problem. Selected at U.C. Davis, CA from a seedling of Silverleaf. These have nuts that are of average quality with some tendancy to split, not a heavy yielder. Zone 4-8.
Plentiful Yield American - This is a very productive variety. Suited to Midwest and West Coast locations where blight isn't a problem. Pollen producer.
Precoce Migoule - Our earliest ripening grafted variety. Very dependable producer in cool regions. Large nuts of good flavor on a vigorous, upright tree. It is a good pollenizer for Colossal and others. Blight resistant. European x Japanese hybrid.
Primato - Among the earliest ripening chestnut varieties. It is of Italian origin. Very good pollinator for other chestnut trees, and may be self-pollinating. Zone 5-8.
Prolific - The heaviest yielding chestnut variety. The tree produces medium sized nuts of average quality. Very dependable cool climate variety from Centralia, WA. It is not suitable in the Eastern USA where blight can be a problem.
Schlarbaum - Quality nuts of average size that peel well, ripening midseason on a tall, narrow tree. Good blight resistance from Chinese and Japanese parentage. A Michael Nave selection.
Silverleaf (Eurobella) - One of our best producers with a large, dark brown, sweet nut that peels very well. Small tree form that is narrow and upright. An excellent pollen producer for Colossal and others. It is a widely adapted and blight resistant tree. Early ripening. In California, some of its largest nuts have split husks but that hasn't been a problem here in the Northwest. Also known as the variety 'Eurobella". May be Japanese x European x Chinkapin.
Skioka - Similar in tree form and overall nut quality to Layeroka, but less productive. A good pollinator, nuts ripening a little later with some remaining in the husk. It is the parent of Layeroka and Skookum.
Tanzawa - Large, sweet nut. These have good blight resistance. Zone 4-8.
Tsukuba - A midseason ripening Japanese selection with large yellow kernels and a low rate of doubles. It is an upright growing tree and produces a crop that is known for its keeping quality.
Whitten North - Medium-large nuts that are slightly later ripening than Whitten South, and more irregularly shaped, but with an exceptional flavor. These are large spreading productive trees.
Whitten South - Large, sweet, flavorful nut. Easy to peel. The parent tree is large spreading and productive.
