Baby Shipova - An early ripening natural dwarf form of Shipova, a unique cross between European pear and Whitebeam (Sorbus aria). Produces clusters of highly fragrant and delicious 1" fruit in August or September. Fruits are much smaller than regular Shipova. Best pollinators are Bosc, Comice, Orcas. Somewhat self-fruitful. Zone 4-9.
Bartlett - The industry standard for canning and for fresh eating. The fruit is juicy and sweet and a reasonable keeper. Ripens in September. Tree is compact and very productive but not very disease resistant. Zone 5-9.
Bosc - Firm, brown winter pear with narrow neck. Highly aromatic, excellent flavor. A very old variety introduced from Belgium in 1807. Good fresh, dried, or cooked. Very good keeper - up to six months. Zone 5-9. Best pollinators are Comice, Orcas, or Shipova.
Comice - Large juicy yellow/green fruits, ripening in fall. They have long been the standard of excellence with which to compare other varieties. Fireblight resistant. Zone 5-9. Best pollinators: Bosc, Orcas, Shipova.
Flemish Beauty - Flemish Beauty produces a large round yellow skinned fruit, blushed red, with very fragrant and flavorful, juicy sweet flesh. Quick to bear, vigorous, productive and unusually hardy to zone 3. Originally from Belgium, around 1830.
Golden Spice - Small yellow skinned fruit with red blush. Pleasant spicy flavor for fresh eating or canning. It is a uniquely hardy Minnesota European Pear selection grafted onto hardy Pyrus ussuriensis rootstock. Fireblight resistant. Hardy to Zone 2.
Maxie - A cross between Nijesseiki Asian Pear and Red Bartlett. These produces a reddish skinned crisp, sweet, juicy and fragrant fruit. Scab resistant.
Moonglow - Medium large, good quality yellow skinned, white fleshed fruit with a red blush. It is very productive and highly fireblight resistant. Early ripening and quick to start bearing for a European pear. Zone 4-9.
Orcas - Large yellow pear with a red blush. Flavorful all purpose variety with good scab resistance. Early mid-season ripening. It originated in Orcas Island, WA.
Rescue - Large yellow skinned pear with a red blush. The fruits are sweet, juicy, and very productive. September ripening. Can keep until December. Scab resistant.
Seckel - Known as "the sugar pear" for its extremely sweet and highly flavored, aromatic fruit. Excellent as a dessert pear, sweet as candy when dried, and also used for canning. It is a self fertile variety in warmer parts of the country. In the North, it may require cross pollination to bear well. Large crops of small yellow/brown fruit on a naturally semi-dwarf tree. Resistant to fireblight but scab susceptible. Hardy and widely adapted. Zone 4-9.
Shipova - A unique cross between European Pear and Mt. Ash. Produces a highly fragrant and delicious 2-3" fruit in August. Bright yellow fruits contrast with silvery foliage. Zone 4-9. Best pollinators: Bosc, Comice, Orcas. Somewhat self fruitful.
Summer Crisp - Midsize, sweet fruits, similar to the crispness of Asian Pears. The fruit keeps for several months. Fireblight resistant. Minnesota origin. Zone 4.
Ubileen - Very early ripening of large sweet fruit with a reddish blush. Good disease resistance. It is of Bulgarian origin. Zone 5 - 9.
Warren - Sweet, juicy, flavorful green skinned fruits, mid-season ripening, good keeper. It was discovered in Mississippi and adapted to the humid South, yet hardy to Michigan. Resistant to fireblight. Zone 5-9.
