An easy peeling, very sweet, French variety. Marron du Var Chestnut is late ripening and pollen sterile. A vigorous, upright grower with excellent timber form. Seedlings start producing 4-8yrs after planting. Grafted/Layered trees start producing 3-5yrs after planting.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Late June to Mid-July. POLLEN STERILE. Needs pollinator.
Grafted/Layered trees – Plant with at least 2 other pollinator producing varieties to ensure good nut production.
Seedlings - Plant with 3 or more seedlings for cross pollination. On average, half of seedlings will produce viable pollen. Or plant with 1 or more good pollen producing grafted varieties.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Full sun, balanced moisture, mildly acidic soils and good drainage.
CHILL HOURS: Medium: 400-500 hours below 45F
DISEASE RESISTANCE: Average, however, pure European Chestnuts are blight susceptible and are only recommended for the Western United States where blight does not occur.
SPACING: 25'-35’ from the centers, if room permits.
