This is among the latest ripening of the major commercial summer bearing varieties. Excellent flavor with large size, high yield, firmness, and color along with a low incidence of rot makes Mary's Peak Strawberry a wonderful new release from the OSU breeding program.
ZONE: 6-10
POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Self-fertile.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Soak roots in tepid water for several hours before planting. Full to 1/2 sun, balanced moisture, prefers slightly acidic soils. Eliminate grass competition in root zone. A mulch of pine needles can keep berries off soil, improve fruit quality and keep shallow roots moist. Top dress with compost yearly; fertilize in August to help plant set many buds for following years' yield. Some growers will prune off 1st year flowers to allow plants to develop stronger root systems.
CHILL HOURS: Low: 300 hours below 45F
DISEASE RESISTANCE: Very good: unusually open plant architecture allows for good airflow.
SIZE AT MATURITY: 9" x 6"
