A cheery addition to the landscape because their bright orange fruit adds color to your backyard after other trees fall leaves have faded. The persimmon fruit is very sweet and ripens in late fall. Persimmon trees are related to ebony trees and produce a very fine hardwood. During the growing season the fairly large shiny leaves are not chewed up by insects or bothered by foliage diseases in our experience, making for an attractive yard tree. Persimmon trees are one of the best for fall color. Persimmons are widely adapted from Florida to New Hampshire but for the colder northern regions American Persimmons are a much hardier choice.
The small origami like white flowers blooms late in June so they are never bothered by late frosts. In the wild and with most persimmon seedlings, they are either male or female and both are required for fruit set. But all the fruiting named varieties we sell are grafted females that are able to set fruit without pollination and when lacking pollination, the fruit will be seedless.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PERSIMMONS CAN NOT BE SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA.
