Very early blooming, with white, fragrant single flowers. Apricot-like edible fruits ¾" to 1" round appear in mid to late spring. To 20' tall and wide. Produces better crops with another variety for cross pollination. 'Shiro Kaga' along with our "Fruiting Japanese Flowering Plum" are the major commercial varieties used in the production of Umeboshi; a traditional Japanese pickled plum dish.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Early blooming. Self-fertile. While prunus mume are considered to be self-fruitful, heavier yields are obtained when two varieties are grown together.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Full to 1/2 sun with balanced moisture. Reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly. Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest. Spur bearer with fruit throughout the tree. Early mid-season ripening.
